For the video I tried to challenge the notion that psychotic people are dangerous purely because of their illness.  All of the problems are inside and effect the person with them more than anyone else could know.  I didnt do it justice, I portrayed what I could

Performance Art

For this I stood in a populated place and help a basket of candy, each piece of candy had an encouraging phrase attached to it.  Many people were too scared to come up to me, but eventually some people did.
Im schizophrenic so Im used to doing things that get reactions out of people, but this was different.  standing with my eyes closed as I basically encouraged people to come close to me wasnt the most peaceful experience, but I feel it was more a test for myself then for the passerbys

Music

Goth-
I noticed one of the artists on the list was Cabaret Voltaire and  thought it wasn't fair the good Voltaire wasn't included.  Voltaire is a goth cabaret singer and has sung songs for children's tv shows such as the Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy.  He is my first thought when I think goth and shows that goth music can be just as cheery as any other genre.

Punk -
Rise Against is a very good band that falls into the punk subculture.  The band members also encapsulate the meaning of the punk subculture too: vegans, straight edge, protesters.  To me they feel like what punk is supposed to be: a rebellion against the status quo.

Hardcore-
Five Finger Death Punch has always been one of my favourites, I have always considered them hardcore. I know music fans always disagree with music classifications, but I think they're a good representation of the hard rock genre.  Most of their songs have motivational lyrics and they as people are so sweet.  (Theyve actually gotten booed out of Tampa before)

Virtual -
The Studio Killers main singer is a girl by the name of Cherry even though the real singer is a boy all songs are preformed by Cherry.  There were many virtual bands to choose from, but I feel the Studio Killers are the most notable from recent times.

Nineties -
Green Day is a notable nineties band and is probably what comes to mind first for many.  Everyone associates American Idiot with the nineties even though it was released in 2004 and they revamped their image due to their association with the nineties so they could make themselves relevant again

Xerox Project

For my Xerox project I copied my hands (in gloves) and made a collage of them. I wanted them to appear to be reaching for something. My (very expensive) scanner was not able to print things the way it should be able too, but I like the result because it looks like a computer glitch which helps give this a creepy feeling

This wasn't as easy as I thought and I wasn't able to do what I wanted so I made a large mosaic with bits of construction paper.

This was also far larger than I thought it would be, doesn't fit in my car big.

Flip Book [[FNAF Spoilers]]

This is referencing the Five Nights At Freddy's: Sister Location game purely because I hated the game and couldn't stop thinking about it.
In the flip book you are a child walking around the facility and getting shown around by the puppet.  You meet Circus Baby and Ennard, the mask with the wires, Baby and Ennard don't get along and she distracts him for you.
The Puppet shows you to Baby's stage and she sings you a song, but you're a child and her programming is actively working against her. She kills you. Then the elevator opens and now in the eyes of the technician the buildings AI wants to give you a present.

Broadway

I read through the blog posts and one in particular stood out to me because it was prefaced with this picture:

Also because the post, due to its google translated nature, referred to Ms. Marie Antoinette Perry with he pronouns which made her story seem a bit more interesting. She was such a big influence on the Broadway culture and I had never even heard of her before. To have the awards of the industry named after you would be such a big honor.

The first post of the blog really resonated with me though, about the fifty percent love. I really feel like that philosophy is what I admire about the people I look up to. Their ability to give their all for almost no reason. It just seems worth it to them, but I wonder if its also a bit of low self esteem on their part too. Like they feel they don't deserve better and fifty percent is all they're capable of receiving. I hope they can grow out of or learn to get out of such a mentality for their own sake.

I know that all sounds a bit contradictory, but overall that post really honors people who try their hardest no matter what and it really is a good quality that anyone could have.  I wasn't able to find that much about the source material aside from this blog, which is disappointing because it does seem interesting.  Though, if we're being honest, the real thing would probably make me angry because someone like that deserves everything good in the world.

Opera Paper

Madema Butterfly

When the video started and we see a white military man with an asian woman I knew there were a couple options for the ending of this thing. My first one was that the man was just using the woman to get what he wanted, but I honestly didn't think that was going to be the real story. After the most unnecessary sex scene I've ever seen and the woman waits for this man to come back, he just takes her child and leaves with his "real" family.

 In my opinion it shows he never really thought of her as a person and just an object to dispense what he wanted. I didn't think it was going to end the way it did though. I understand the umbilical cord was mean to be symbolic, but it just makes me kind of angry that she didn't fight back and merely ended her life.

The art type, puppet stop motion, helped give the ending scene a bit more impact. This worked because the stuffing and doll pieces coming apart really does a great job of getting the true nature of her pain across. It takes the phrase "coming apart at the seams" literally and it does it well.
Part of me is very angry at the woman character for not seeing this was going to happen and fighting for herself and her child or at least not doing anything with him in the first place.

Living Smart

Dr. Cuero has such a great life view, he has helped many people by doing what he knew he could do and din't let anyone stop him. People could really benefit from thinking like him, because a lot of people let what others think of them control what they do and how they spend their time. By accomplishing things people don't expect is how someone gains respect and self pride. When you accomplish one thing it reminds you that you can do more and that builds and builds, it really leads to Independence.

The first image I got off of Chris' ASCII website, the other I made using a generator. I can't even imagine making one of these by hand. It really is a cool art form and its cool to see what every one is able to do with it. It really allows people to be creative with a simple medium, but just because its simple doesn't mean it doesn't have a steep learning curve.

Introduction

My name is Denise Leahy, I'm a senior. I'm a seamstress and do embroidery. I have always liked art, especially looking at it. I am excited to learn about different kinds of art.
I did not expect this class to be lecture based, but I'm glad it is.
I expect to learn about various art forms and how they are made and where they came from.
